What is the life expectancy of backboards?
This varies depending on the material, environment and use:
- Timber backboards can last up to 3 years
- SMC backboards can last up to 10 years
- Fibreglass backboards can last 10 years
- Glass backboards can last a lifetime.
What are wind ratings and how do I select the correct one?
Wind ratings are a classification combining wind region, terrain, category, shielding and topography. The classification is separated into four categories: region A, region B, region C, and region D.
- For regions A and B, we recommend our W41 wind-rated equipment.
- For region C we recommend our W50 wind-rated equipment.
- For region D we also recommend our W50 wind-rated equipment, plus site-specific engineering certification.

What’s the difference between an internal and an external winder?
The main difference is where the end of the net is attached to the post.
Posts with an internal winder have the net end secured in the winder post. The winding mechanism is also not visible and only shows the handle on the outside of the post.
Posts with an external winder have the net secured on the outside of both posts. The winding mechanism is completely visible.

Can the sleeves be core drilled and cast in, or must they be installed when the concrete is poured?
Sleeves can be installed using both methods. The footing requirements do not change.
Where are you based?
We are based in Brendale, 30 minutes’ drive north of Brisbane CBD. We supply, install and service all of Australia and parts of Oceania.
Do you sell directly to the public, or is it only to businesses?
At Grand Slam Sports Equipment, we sell our products both directly to the public and to businesses. Our primary focus is on manufacturing commercial-grade sporting equipment designed for use in parks, schools, and stadiums. Our equipment is designed according to the Australian [construction] Standards and various national and international sporting regulations.
What is the order process/how do I place an order?
We are currently working on adding e-commerce to our website. In the interim, add the items you wish to order into your cart and request a quote. One of our sales staff will then provide you with pricing. If you wish to proceed, they will advise payment options.
Can we pick up the order from your warehouse?
Yes, you can. You can check availability hours and the dimensions of your order with our staff to ensure the vehicle you use will be suitable.
What are unloading facilities?
Unloading facilities are equipment for lifting and moving heavy or bulk items from the transport vehicle to the storage area or other transport modes. This can be a forklift or crane (HIAB).
We dispatch many orders on pallets which can weigh up to 500kg. As such, we typically use commercial freight companies that do not always offer hand unloading for safety reasons.
Do you offer installation services?
We offer installation services for our indoor basketball structures, scoring equipment, curtains and netting. We provide assembly services for our outdoor basketball structures. If you want to organise an installation for the above items, please fill out a form here.

How can I return items?

What are the lead times?
Our lead times vary depending on the product and quantity required:
- For smaller items like tennis posts, rings, sleeves, nets, etc. we keep stock and can typically dispatch immediately.
- For larger items like soccer goals, extended outreach basketball structures and scoring equipment, the typical lead time for manufacturing is 4 weeks.
- For indoor fixtures like indoor basketball structures, curtains, netting, etc the typical lead time for manufacturing is 4-6 weeks. This begins once the shop drawings are approved by the client.
- For services such as installation and maintenance, the typical lead time is 4-6 weeks.
Do you provide certification by RPEQ?
We provide generic engineering certification for our equipment. If the certification needs to be site-specific, we outsource an engineer to complete this and will incur fees.
