Grand Slam was again a major sponsor at this year’s Sunshine Coast Sports Star of the Year Awards.
The event is held annually by the Sunshine Coast Sports Federation and celebrates the achievements of sports people on the Coast during the previous year. The night is held in high regard on the Sunshine Coast and is usually attended by high profile government and sporting representatives from the area.
The Grand Slam Legends Award was introduced last year and celebrates individuals who have devoted a significant amount to Sunshine Coast sport over a long period of time.

OAM, Member of Sport Hall of Fame , Olympic Gold medallist in Heptathlon 1984 in LA Gold Com Games 1982 Brisbane bronze in 100m Hurdles 1984 Edinburgh. Taught at Immanuel College as HPE teacher on SC. Now National Coaching Director for Athletics Australia.

Gold Medal Pole Vault 1982 Com Games in Brisbane. He competed in 2 Olympics and 3 Commonwealth Games. Father and coach of Alana Boyd 2 time Gold medalist in Pole Vault and Matt and Jacinta Boyd who are both highly credentialed athletes. He is based at the University of the Sunshine Coast and has been a long time resident of the area, helping many up and coming athletes around the Coast and Australia.[/two_third_last]

Australian and Queensland Rugby League Legend – Captained Australia and Coach for 8 State of Origin winning series with QLD. Inducted into the Australian Sports Hall of Fame.He was named in the team of the Century. Canberra Raiders Captain and premiership winner and has a Grand Stand at Canberra Stadium named after him. Won the Daily M Captain of the year 3 years in succession. A legend of League on the Sunshine Coast having graduated from Maroochydore High School.

Surfing writer for over 30 years and convener of the Noosa Festival of Surfing for the last 17 years which was named the 2014 SC Sports Federation Event of the Year. An author of many surfing books and avid surfer still and a true local identity and Icon of the Sunshine Coast.
